United Kingdom APS Benchmark
BANKING & FINTECH USER SATISFACTION BENCHMARK SCORE (APS)
The APS Score benchmark sets the bar for an app to stand out from its competitors, based on qualitative user satisfaction surveys.Market Leaders
CAPITAL ONE UK ranked first among the surveyed apps with a score of 80.0, reaching the High Performance level associated with very high satisfaction and trust. Its qualitative feedback suggests that straightforward financial control is a compelling product proposition: respondents valued clear account information, accessible spending records and convenient repayments.
STARLING - MOBILE BANKING followed with 77.0, placing it in the Strong range associated with high satisfaction and engagement. REMITLY: SEND MONEY & TRANSFER ranked third, matching the competitive score benchmark and also achieving Strong performance. The leading group spans credit management, mobile banking and international transfers, showing that strong satisfaction can emerge across different financial use cases.
Leadership still leaves room for improvement. Feedback supplied for the top-ranked app included conflicting experiences with redesigns, account access, statement availability and support. Some respondents welcomed the updated interface; others reported difficulty locating familiar functions. The product lesson is that simplicity must survive updates, exceptions and recovery journeys—not just work during routine use.
Market Overview
The October 2026 United Kingdom banking and fintech app satisfaction survey analysed more than 10000 valid responses across 20 apps. Using APS from Cassuarina Labs, the study recorded an average App Pulse Score© (APS) of 50 out of 100, placing the surveyed market in the Moderate Zone: stable, but without a consistently distinctive experience.
The averages across surveyed apps reveal a divided experience. “Love It” accounted for 59.8%, while 24.8% were “Frustrated” and 4.6% were “Very disappointed.” The remaining 10.9% covered “Like It” and “Disappointed,” with no separate breakdown supplied. These rounded figures total slightly above 100%.
That distribution matters more than the moderate headline alone suggests. Strong enthusiasm coexists with substantial frustration; the country average should not be read as widespread indifference. For product teams, the opportunity is to preserve what satisfied users value while identifying the journeys that leave others unable to complete essential tasks.
The survey’s competitive benchmarks set a more demanding target: an APS score of 71.6, Fans% of at least 77%, and Critics% of no more than 13%. These are reference points for stronger performance, rather than country averages. Together, they encourage teams to measure both positive attachment and the extent of negative experiences.
Key Lessons
Make financial control visible: bring balances, available credit, payment deadlines and transaction status into one clear view.
Protect familiar tasks during redesigns: keep statements, PIN access and payment controls easy to find, with readable text and accessible navigation.
Close the payment feedback loop: distinguish pending from completed transactions and explain when balances will update.
Build recovery beyond the app: provide usable alternative access and human support when login, device changes or automated assistance fail.
Remove avoidable detours: skip redundant account selection, support wallet integration and make recurring-payment changes manageable within the same journey.
